Air Arabia Egypt (E5, Alexandria Borg el Arab) has launched its maiden domestic service in Egypt, connecting Sharm el Sheikh and Alexandria Borg el Arab.

The carrier will operate the route 1x weekly using A320-200s.

The domestic market in Egypt is currently dominated by the flag carrier EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International), together with its regional subsidiary EgyptAir Express, which have a combined market share of 82% with 404 weekly departures. Nile Air and AlMasria Universal Airlines also offer domestic scheduled flights, although on a much smaller scale with 50 and 28 weekly departures respectively.

Excluding the new service offered by Air Arabia Egypt, Alexandria Borg el Arab currently sees 20 weekly domestic departures, all of them operated by EgyptAir. Among others, the flag carrier connects the city 7x weekly with Sharm el Sheikh. For its part, the resort town at the Red Sea sees 95 weekly domestic departures, the vast majority of them to Cairo International.
