VivaAerobus (VB, Monterrey Mariano Escobedo) has announced it has firmed up a contract amendment for twenty-five incremental A321neo while, at the same time, upgauging existing orders for sixteen A320neo to A321neo.
The Mexican ultra-low-cost-carrier's Airbus order backlog now entails sixty-one A320neo Family jets including twenty A320neo and forty-one A321neo. No engine selection has yet been made for the new aircraft.
"These additional aircraft will allow us to capture opportunities in Mexico, and we can think of no aircraft better suited than the A321neo with 240 seats with which to endeavour our growth objectives," Gian Carlo Nucci, CEO of Grupo VivaAeroBus, said. "Of course, these new aircraft will help us offer even lower fares, more destinations and allow us to continue improving our customer service."
The carrier currently operates twenty-two A320ceo and four A320neo on flights covering Mexico, the United States, and Costa Rica. Though it bears the "Viva" name, the carrier is not affiliated with Grupo Viva. It is recalled that in late 2016, Irelandia Aviation disposed of its 49% stake to 51% shareholder, local Mexican bus transport company IAMSA.
