Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International) has announced it will launch a direct service from Newcastle Williamtown, New South Wales, to Auckland International, on November 22, 2018. It will become the first international service out of the Australian airport in 16 years.

The flights will be operated 3x weekly with B737-800 equipment on a seasonal basis through February 17, 2019.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the airline already operates 27 weekly departures out of Newcastle on domestic routes to each of Brisbane International and Melbourne Tullamarine. The airport is also served by Jetstar Airways, Rex - Regional Express, FlyPelican, and Qantas.
