AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) has placed an order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for thirty-four A330-900. With this order, that was announced during the 2018 Farnborough Air Show, the AirAsia Group longhaul low-cost carrier's A330neo backlog has grown to 100 all of which are -900s.

According to Airbus, AirAsia X will indeed be the A330neo's Asian launch operator with delivery of its first of the type due in the last quarter of 2019.

The incoming jets will be distributed among AirAsia X's various affiliates which, aside from the Malaysia-based mother firm, include Thai AirAsia X (XJ, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) and Indonesia AirAsia X (IDX, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta).

All three carriers are existing A330 Family operators employing twenty-two, seven, and two A330-300s respectively.
