The Government of the Falkland Islands has announced it has chosen LATAM Airlines Group as the preferred operator for its planned second commercial route between the islands and mainland South America.

A statement issued on Thursday, July 26, said LATAM Airlines Brasil (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas) had proposed a mid-week flight between Mount Pleasant International and São Paulo Guarulhos, Brazil.

"Further negotiations with LATAM will discuss on how the stop once a month in Argentina will be met," it said.

A final decision is due in September of this year.

LATAM Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile) operates the only flights between the Falklands and the South American mainland. It currently operates a weekly Mount Pleasant International-Punta Arenas International, Chile service which, once a month, stops over in Rio Gallegos, Argentina.
