ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) has announced it would cut international capacity between October 1, 2018, and March 31, 2019, by 4% in comparison to the original plan. Due to the reduced capacity, the carrier will be able to avoid further cancellations caused by the groundings of B787-8s affected by Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 issues.

"ANA considered factors such as the impact of the required Rolls-Royce engine inspections and determined the optimum allocation of its resources for the second half of FY2018. Therefore, the company does not anticipate further flight cancellations and inconveniences for its valued customers due to the engine inspections. Safety is always our top priority and we will continuously work closely with Rolls-Royce with the aim to resolve the situation," the Japanese carrier said in a statement.

The carrier will suspend its Nagoya Chubu-Shanghai Pudong and Osaka Kansai-Hong Kong International routes for the duration of the Winter 2018/19 season. It will also reduce the frequency of its services out of Tokyo Narita to each of Los Angeles International and Chengdu Shuangliu.

ANA will also replace the B787-8s with other types, such as B787-9s, B767-300s, B777-300(ER)s, and A320neo on multiple medium- and long-haul routes.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, five out of thirty-seven B787-8s operated by ANA are currently grounded. All twenty-eight B787-9s are active. The carrier expects to start taking deliveries of the largest variant of the family, B787-10s, in early 2019. It has three -10s on order with Boeing.

The carrier will at the same time increase the capacity on domestic routes by 1% in comparison to the original plan. Demand for travel within Japan grows steadily partially due to the growth in the number of international tourists.
