Cebu Pacific Air (5J, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) has announced it will resume scheduled passenger flights to the island of Boracay by the end of the current Summer 2018 season.

One of the Philippines' best-known tourist destinations, Boracay has been closed to tourism since April on the back of a Philippine Government directive. During a tour of the island, located approximately 315 kilometres south of Manila, president Rodrigo Duterte ordered the island be closed for six months to undertake major renovation works, especially of the sewerage system, which had become obsolete and insufficient.

With little demand for travel, scheduled carriers were then forced to either cut flights to both Caticlan and Kalibo airports.

In a statement, Cebu Pacific said direct flights to Caticlan, one of the two gateways to Boracay, would start by October 28. Schedule data at hand shows Cebu Pacific and its Cebgo (DG, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) unit will operate up to 7x daily shuttle flights between Manila Ninoy Aquino International and Caticlan; 2x daily flights between Cebu and Caticlan; and a daily service between Angeles City Clark International and Caticlan. Cebu Pacific will also operate a daily flight between Manila Ninoy Aquino International and Kalibo; and 7x weekly between Seoul Incheon, South Korea and Kalibo.

Other carriers that served Boracay included Philippine Airlines (through PAL Express), Philippines AirAsia, Air Seoul, and Pan Pacific Airlines.
