Solomons - Solomon Airlines (IE, Honiara) said that it had suspended its services to Suavanao as the airport closed for runway reconstruction and expansion works.

The Solomon Islands' flag carrier operated to Suavanao 7x weekly out of its main base at Honiara, including two services via Fera Island and two via Sege. All flights were operated with DHC-6-300s.

The reconstruction of the runway at Suavanao is a part of a New Zealand-funded programme, worth SBD40 million Solomon Islands dollars (USD5.1 million) in total. Runways at Choiseul Bay, Sege, and Lata are also due for closure in 2018.

Separately, the Solomon Island's government is planning to upgrade airports at Auki, Kirakira, Parasi, and possibly Rennell/Tingoa to cater for Dash 8-100 operations.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Solomons currently deploys a single Dash 8-100 and three DHC-6-300 Twin Otters on domestic sectors. It also operates a single A320-200 on international routes to each of Brisbane International, Nadi, Port Vila, and Tarawa.
