Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) is in talks to join an airline alliance, President and Chief Operating Officer Jaime Bautista has disclosed.

Speaking to the Aviation Analyst blog, Bautista said the accession process, which has already started, would last up to two years. He did not disclose which of Star Alliance, Oneworld, or Skyteam the carrier would be joining.

"The alliance membership will help give Philippine Airlines access to more interior points in Europe and North America, as well as the continents of Africa and South America where we can tap new sources of traffic,” he said.

The ch-aviation airlines module shows the Philippine carrier has codeshare/marketing agreements with carriers from each of the three main alliances although its ties with Skyteam - through China Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Vietnam Airlines, and Xiamen Airlines - are the most prolific.
