Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale International) will open a crew base at Orlando International in line with its growth aspirations for the Floridian gateway.

The ULCC said in a statement the crew base would open on December 1, 2018, with nearly 150 crew members.

"This move will help support Spirit’s massive international expansion in Orlando, adding to the 150 airport services jobs recently created to support the growth," it said. "Spirit is expected to bring hundreds of more inflight positions to Orlando this spring with job fairs expected in the coming months."

Spirit recently kickstarted its international growth plans for Orlando with the launch of flights to each of Aguadilla (daily), Guatemala City (4x weekly), Panamá City Tocumen International (4x weekly), Santo Domingo Las Américas (4x weekly until November 7, then daily from November 8), San Pedro Sula (2x weekly), San José Juan Santamaría (4x weekly until November 7, daily from November 8), and San Salvador International (2x weekly) over the course of October 4,5, and 6.

These will be followed by Bogotá (starts November 8, daily), St. Thomas Cyril E. King (starts November 8, 3x weekly), Medellín José Maria Córdova (starts November 9, 2x weekly), and Cartagena Rafael Núñez International (starts November 10, 2x weekly).
