WestJet (WS, Calgary) has announced it would base its maiden B787-9s out of Calgary, connecting the Canadian city with London Gatwick from April 28, 2019, Paris CDG from May 17, and Dublin International from June 1.

The service to London will be operated 7x weekly, to Paris - 4x weekly, and to Dublin - 3x weekly.

WestJet currently serves London Gatwick 3x weekly out of Calgary using B767-300(ER) equipment. It also flies to the British gateway out of Halifax, Toronto Pearson, and Vancouver International. The airline also flies 7x weekly from Calgary to Paris via Halifax using B737-8 aircraft. It serves Dublin out of Toronto via St. John's.

Prior to the international debut of the new widebody type in WestJet's fleet, the Canadian hybrid carrier will deploy the B787-9 on domestic routes for crew training and route proving purposes.

WestJet currently expects the delivery of its first B787-9 in early 2019, followed by two more units of the type in April 2019. The carrier ordered ten units in total from Boeing.

The B787s will join the limited widebody fleet of WestJet, which currently includes only four B767-300(ER)s.
