JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) has formally cancelled twenty-four E190 jets still on order from Embraer following an earlier decision to go with the A220-300 for its regional jet renewal plans.
In July, the New York-based carrier signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the Airbus-controlled C Series Aircraft (CSALP) for sixty firm-ordered A220-300 – formerly CS300s – with options for an additional sixty aircraft of the type.
Once deliveries begin in 2020, the A220s will replace jetBlue's existing fleet of sixty E190s whose flying will be reduced from 2020 onwards before being phased out completely by around 2025.
In its 3Q18 update, Embraer said that aside from these 24 jets, it had also removed another 110 jets from its order backlog. Of those 110, 100 are E175-E2s that were ordered by SkyWest Airlines (OO, Salt Lake City) but whose delivery is subject to changes being made to capacity scope clauses currently in effect in US mainline carriers' collective labour agreements.
Given the conditionality of the order, Embraer has therefore decided to remove it from its backlog so as to comply with IFRS accounting standards. However, it said Skywest remains committed to its EMB-175-E2 order and that its terms remain unchanged.
The remaining 10 jets were cancellations from various other unspecified customers.
