Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) has had to drop plans for flights from Asmara to Scandinavia after failing to secure the requisite traffic rights.

The airline had previously announced plans to link the Eritrean capital to each of Oslo Gardermoen and Stockholm Arlanda from mid-December onwards as part of its existing services from Addis Ababa International.

However, according to sources at Avinor who spoke to Denmark's check-in.dk, Ethiopian has had to shelve those plans after it failed to secure rights for the Eritrea-Europe sectors of its flights.

Ethiopian had also announced plans to connect Asmara with each of London Heathrow and Milan Malpensa (via Rome Fiumicino) from early December onwards, but according to Routes Online has also shelved these plans.
