Airbus A320neo aircraft remain an operational challenge for Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) due to the delayed deliveries and underperforming dependability, CEO Carsten Spohr said during the IATA Wings of Change conference in Madrid.

"[So far,] we only got half of the aircraft we ordered and they only operate half the hours per day as we were promised," Spohr said.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Lufthansa currently operates fourteen A320neo. The German carrier was the type's global launch customer, taking the first unit, D-AINA (msn 6801) in January 2016. It has a further fifty-three A320neo and forty A321neo on order with the manufacturer. A further seventeen A320neo and eight A321neo have been ordered by Lufthansa Group on behalf of Swiss (LX, Zurich).
