The Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has launched renewed investigations into the haulage of the stimulant miraa (khat) to Somalia.

According to the Business Daily, the regulator's director general, Gilbert Kibe, has confirmed that three Kenyan carriers are under currently investigation.

A January investigation had revealed that two carriers had violated the terms of their operations specification and were using passenger aircraft to ferry khat consignments to Somalia. Their licences were consequently suspended.

At present, the list of airlines that fly between Nairobi and Mogadishu on a scheduled and charter basis includes Astral Aviation, Safe Air, Jambojet, African Express Airways, Silverstone Air Services, Skyward Express, Jetways Airlines, Bluebird Aviation (Kenya), Fly SAX, and Jubba Airways (Kenya).
