ViaAir (Orlando International) terminated its service from St. Augustine, FL, to Charlotte International, the only scheduled services for the former airport as of November 1, 2018, the St. Augustine Record has reported.

The airline operated the route in combination with its Essential Air Service flights from Charlotte to Parkersburg and Beckley in West Virginia. The contract lapsed at the end of October 2018. The airline said that, in light of the termination of the EAS routes, it no longer made sense for it to operate the St. Augustine-Charlotte service.

"We intend to serve the community in the future," ViaAir spokesperson Donald Bowman said. He added that ViaAir would be looking at identifying new niche markets from northeast Florida in the future.

ViaAir was the only airline serving St. Augustine after Frontier Airlines (F9, Denver International) pulled out in 2017.

ViaAir continues to operate six E145s on scheduled regional services out of Orlando Sanford and Austin-Bergstrom International. The carrier's flights are technically operated by its subsidiary, Via Airlines.
