Oneworld has announced Royal Air Maroc (AT, Casablanca Mohamed V) will become the alliance's first fully-fledged African member carrier.
In a statement, Oneworld said the Moroccan airline would accede to its partnership in mid-2020. Its regional subsidiary, Royal Air Maroc Express (RXP, Casablanca Mohamed V), will join as a Oneworld affiliate member at the same time.
“We’re pleased to welcome Royal Air Maroc to Oneworld," Alan Joyce, Oneworld Governing Board Chairman and Group CEO of Qantas, said. "Africa is the last major region where Oneworld does not have a full member airline, and it has one of the fastest predicted air travel growth rates over the next few decades. Royal Air Maroc will deliver greater value for more customers worldwide as we expand our alliance network to a new region."
Royal Air Maroc currently operates a fleet of six B737-700s, thirty-two B737-800s, three B767-300(ER)s, five B787-8s, and four E190s while its Express unit operates five ATR72-600s. Collectively, they serve 94 destinations in 49 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America.
