Atlantic Airways (RC, Faroe Islands Vágar) has announced plans to start non-stop flights to the United States during the second half of 2019.

In its application to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for exemption authority and a foreign air carrier permit, the Faroese carrier said it was looking to use its incoming A320neo to run seasonal, scheduled service between the Faroe Islands (FAE) and the New York City area beginning late summer 2019.

In addition, it has also sought the authority to operate charter flights to the United States.

Atlantic Airways currently operates a fleet of one A320ceo and two A319-100s. Of the trio, one A319 leased from SMBC Aviation Capital will be replaced by an A320neo leased from Air Lease Corporation delivery of which is due to take place in March 2019.

In terms of network, Atlantic Airways currently connects its Faroe Islands Vágar base to destinations in Denmark, Spain, the United Kingdom, Iceland, and Norway.
