The full-scale opening of Istanbul Airport airport has been further postponed with the relocation of all Turkish Airlines from Istanbul Atatürk now scheduled for March 2019, DHA News has reported.

The delay has not yet been officially confirmed or justified. The decision was reportedly made after a lengthy meeting between the representatives of the Turkish flag carrier, the airport operator, and the government.

Initially, the new airport in Istanbul was due to open at the end of October 2018. However, at that time Turkish Airlines relocated only a limited number of routes for test runs. It was subsequently due to fully move its passenger operations to the new facility at the end of 2018.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Turkish Airlines currently runs 39 weekly departures out of Istanbul New on five domestic and two international routes. In comparison, the airline schedules 3,212 weekly departures out of the existing main gateway.
