Citilink (QG, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) has launched a new service from Banyuwangi to Kuala Lumpur International on December 19, the Jakarta Post has reported. The route is the first international service at the former airport.

Flights will operate 3x weekly through the end of the Winter 2018/19 season, and daily thereafter, onboard A320-200 equipment.

In early 2018, Citilink said that Malaysia was the most interesting prospective international market from Banyuwangi. The airport serves both the extreme east of Java and the nearby Bali, accessible from Banyuwangi via a short ferry crossing.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Banyuwangi currently sees modest domestic traffic with 61 weekly departures operated by Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, NAM Air, Batik Air, and Wings Air (Indonesia) to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta and Surabaya.
