Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has acquired an approximately 5% shareholding in China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou), the Chinese carrier has announced.

In a Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) disclosure, China Southern said the Qatari carrier's purchase consisted of 430,036,166 A shares (3.5056%) and 183,324,000 H shares (1.4944%). The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

"Qatar Airways regards our shareholding in China Southern Airlines as an important part of our strategic investment in the largest airline in one of the world's fastest growing aviation markets," Qatar Airways' Chairman Ali Shareef Al Emadi said in a statement.

Aside from this shareholding, Qatar Airways also has equity in IAG International Airlines Group (20%), LATAM Airlines Group (10%), Air Italy (49%), and Cathay Pacific (9.99%).
