Indonesia's competition watchdog (Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha - KPPU) has launched an investigation into what it said is alleged cartel-like behaviour in the domestic Indonesian air travel market.

KPPU commissioner Guntur Syahputra Saragih said in a statement that investigations have centred on the sale of domestic airline tickets as well as cargo rates being charged by local carriers. In addition, the regulator has also moved to scrutinize the tie-up between Garuda Indonesia Group and Sriwijaya Air Group.

Thus far, Guntur said the KPPU had summoned the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA), Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, Wings Air (Indonesia), Batik Air, Citilink and travel agents to provide testimony and gather evidence.
