Shree Airlines (N9, Kathmandu) has received clearance from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to operate international charter flights and is now eyeing a permit for scheduled services to foreign destinations, The Himalayan Times has reported.
"This permission will enable the airline to operate chartered flights to neighbouring India and Bangladesh. The CAAN is also considering allowing the airline company to operate international scheduled flights," CAAN Deputy Director General Rajan Pokharel said.
The permission covers flights of up to three hours and three of the airline's aircraft - both CRJ200ERs and one out of two CRJ700s it operates.
It is unclear why the CAAN decided to withhold one of the -700s from the permission.
The permission for scheduled flights that the airline is seeking would also cover flights of up to three hours.
Shree Airlines, launched as a helicopter operator, has been operating fixed-wing aircraft since 2017. It currently runs scheduled flights out of Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Dhangarhi, Nepalgunj, and Rajbiraj.
