The US Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded SkyWest Airlines (OO, Salt Lake City) the Essential Air Service (EAS) contract at Massena, NY and Ogdensburg, NY from April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2021.

The three-year contract is worth USD6 million per annum in subsidies.

The carrier will operate 12x weekly to each of the cities from Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles using CRJ200 aircraft under the United Express brand.

Currently, Ogdensburg is served 21x weekly from Albany, NY by Cape Air (9K, Hyannis) with Cessna 402 equipment. The airport additionally sees non-EAS flights by Allegiant Air (G4, Las Vegas Harry Reid), which connects it 3x weekly with Orlando Sanford and 2x weekly with St. Petersburg/Clearwater.

Massena is served exclusively by Boutique Air (4B, San Francisco) which operates 21x weekly to Boston using PC-12 aircraft.

Both current EAS contracts are due to expire on March 31, 2019.
