Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) will start B737-8-200 operations on May 14, 2019, basing the first units of the type exclusively out of London Stansted, Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Jacobs told various media outlets.
Flightglobal cited Jacobs as saying that the Irish LCC would plan to take five MAX 200s this year. According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Ryanair has 135 such aircraft on order with Boeing and is one of only two customers for the type so far with VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) having another order for 100 of the aircraft.
Airline Route has reported that the initial routes to be served with the MAX 200 from Stansted will be:
- from May 14: Tenerife Sur (3x weekly) and Thessaloniki (3x weekly)
- from May 16: Alicante (2x weekly), Dortmund (3x weekly), and Palermo International (1x weekly)
- from May 17: Athens (1x weekly) and Bologna (1x weekly)
- from May 18: Bari (1x weekly) and Madrid Barajas (1x weekly)
- from May 19: Brindisi (1x weekly)
Further routes will then be added in June and July 2019.
Ryanair's MAX 200s will feature 197 passenger seats. The type is based on the modified B737-8 with additional doors and an altered galley and lavatories layout to accommodate more seats at a 28-inch pitch.
