Caribbean Airlines (BW, Port of Spain) is negotiating a wet-lease of a 70-seater turboprop, most likely an ATR - Avions de Transport Régional aircraft, to commence on April 8 through September 30, 2019, the Daily Express has reported.

The carrier had plotted the wet-lease even before an incident on March 6, 2019, when its ATR72-600 9Y-TTA (msn 968) was damaged in a ground collision with the terminal building at Port of Spain. The airline has four more ATRs in its fleet, as well as twelve B737-800s.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs are trying to convince the government to step in and halt the planned addition of twelve B737-8s in the wake of the recent wave of groundings of the type pending the conclusion of investigations. The airline announced the commitment last year and is due to start taking deliveries of the first four units on dry-lease from Air Lease Corporation in the fourth quarter of 2019 as a replacement for the -800s.
