Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) has announced it will launch its first South American route from London Heathrow to São Paulo Guarulhos in 2020. Flights will be operated daily with B787-9 aircraft.

"São Paulo represents an incredible opportunity for our business, and we’re very excited to be flying to a brand new continent for the first time. There are a significant number of corporate customers, and multi-national businesses, located in this powerhouse of South America who can now enjoy the Virgin Atlantic experience on this busy international route," Executive Vice-President (Commercial) Juha Jarvinen said.

The airline will also seek to attract leisure passengers through its Virgin Holidays in-house tour operator.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, British Airways and LATAM Airlines Brasil currently operate the route between Heathrow and Guarulhos. Both airlines fly daily using B777-200(ER) and B777-300(ER) aircraft, respectively.
