Nigerian GSA and travel agent Peacock Aviation has petitioned the Gambian government to assist in recovering around NGN18.2 million nairas (USD51,000) from Mid Africa Aviation (Banjul), eTurbo News Group has reported.

Peacock Aviation acted as a GSA of Mid Africa Aviation in Nigeria from April 2017 to March 2018, when the Gambian carrier suspended its own scheduled flights until further notice. The GSA was subsequently approached by passengers and vendors to refund fares for the cancelled flights and settle outstanding debts related to Mid Africa's operations.

As it stands, Peacock alleges that Mid Africa's owes over NGN11 million nairas (USD30,500) to passengers and around NGN7 million nairas (USD19,400) to IATA for Billing Settlement Plan (BSP) commissions. The GSA alleges that it received no refund from the carrier itself and as such was unable to refund the passengers and vendors. Peacock Aviation said that it was threatened with legal action and had to face protests from passengers despite it having no means to refund the fares.

"Despite several email communications between our client and the said Mid Africa Aviation with reconciliation and adjustment of account settled between the parties, still the Airline has refused to release funds to pay innocent travelers their well-deserved refund even after leaving them stranded, disappointed and uncompensated," Peacock Aviation Group Chairman Segun Phillips said.

Mid Africa Aviation currently focuses on ACMI operations for Tarco Aviation (3T, Khartoum) and Badr Airlines (J4, Khartoum) in Sudan.
