Qantas Freight (Sydney Kingsford Smith) will replace the two B747-400(FSCD)s it wet-leases from Atlas Air (5Y, New York JFK) with two B747-8(F)s. Under the terms of the agreement, Atlas Air said it will operate the two B747-8 freighters for Qantas on transpacific routes linking Australia and Asia with the United States beginning in late July.
"The B747-8(F)s will provide additional revenue cargo volume to serve the strong growth in demand across Qantas’ international freight network," Atlas Air said. "The B747-400(F)s are expected to enter into ACMI service for other Atlas Air customers."
The Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) cargo subsidiary currently operates five B737-300(F)s and one B767-300Fs (all wet-leased from Express Freighters Australia) and one BAe 146-100(QT) and four BAe 146-300(QT)s (all wet-leased from JetEx (Australia)).
Its B747 network served from Sydney currently includes Anchorage Ted Stevens, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Chicago O'Hare, Chongqing, Honolulu, Los Angeles International, New York JFK, and Shanghai Pudong.
