interCaribbean Airways (JY, Providenciales) has announced it will resume flights to St. Maarten on April 15, 2019, three months after it suspended them amid a legal battle with now-defunct InselAir (Curacao).
The carrier from the Turks and Caicos Islands will initially operate 4x weekly between St. Maarten and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. As of June 3, interCarribean will boost the frequency of its services from Beef Island to 11x weekly. At the same time, it will also launch a 4x weekly service from Santo Domingo Las Américas to St. Maarten.
Flights to St. Maarten will be operated onboard E120 aircraft.
The carrier suspended its services to St. Maarten after a court bailiff seized fuel being carried onboard an interCaribbean Airways E120, VQ-TMJ (msn 274), when it arrived on the island on January 18 amid a financial dispute with InselAir. On pain of future asset seizures, the Turks & Caicos-based carrier suspended all flights to Sint Maarten. VQ-TMJ was returned to active service on March 9, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.
