Jazeera Airways (J9, Kuwait) has flatly denied claims that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense has filed a lawsuit against the airline over a 2017 incident involving a Jazeera Airways aircraft and a military balloon.

The incident in question took place on August 27, 2017 and involved A320-200 9K-CAK (msn 4162). The jet was on final approach into Kuwait from Riyadh when it struck a tethered balloon that, according to the Kuna news agency, contained radar equipment.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 10, the Ministry said it had filed a lawsuit through the Department of Fatwa and Legislation in February seeking USD300 million in damages. The legal claim came after an international committee had completed its investigation into the incident, it said without specifying the defendants in the case.

Jazeera Airways has since denied that it has been sued adding that it has not received any legal claims with regards to financial compensation.

"The final verdict of the International Investigation Committee, as referred to in the news, did not find Jazeera Airways KPSC liable in any case," it said. "There is no financial impact on the Company."
