Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) is considering accelerating the retirement of its MD-90 Family jets, Executive Vice President and CFO Paul Jacobson said during the quarterly investor call.
"We expect to accelerate the retirement of our MD-90 fleet... We expect to make that announcement in the quarter at which point we can provide more details on exact timing, replacement, etc.," Jacobson said.
According to the ch-aviation fleets module, the carrier currently operates seventy-nine MD-88s and thirty-eight MD-90s. Forty-four MD-88s are due to leave Delta's fleet in 2019.
The airline is replacing the type with A220s and A320neo Family aircraft. Delta already operates nine A220-100s and has a further fifty A220-300s, thirty-one -100s, and 100 A321-200neo on order with Airbus.
Delta currently plans to phase out the MD-88s by the end of 2020 and the MD-90s by the end of 2022.
