AlbaStar (AP, Palma de Mallorca) has applied to the US Department of Transportation for a Foreign Air Carrier Permit and an exemption authority.

In its application, the carrier did not disclose its specific plans to operate to the US. It only said that it seeks to exercise "the full rights available to EU Member State air carriers pursuant to the Air Transport Agreement between the United States and the European Union and its Member States".

AlbaStar operates two B737-400s and three B737-800s and engages in scheduled passenger transport, charter flights under its own code, and ACMI operations for other carriers. As of mid-April, the airline's only scheduled routes are from Milan Bergamo to Catania and Lourdes/Tarbes, and from Milan Malpensa to Catania.
