Uganda Airlines (UR, Entebbe/Kampala) has taken delivery of the first two of four CRJ900 it has on order from Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau). The aircraft, msn 15457 and 15461, have yet to actually leave Canada to be delivered to Entebbe/Kampala next week.

Earlier this month, the country's Works and Transport minister Monica Azuba Ntege told the Daily Monitor that Uganda Airlines would require up to three months to complete its certification drive. The start-up will be required to operate demonstration flights to neighbouring countries to get its Air Operator's Certificate.

Additional CRJ-900s from the order placed in June 2018 are due to be delivered in July and September and will then be joined by two A330-800 aircraft by the of 2020 to complete the nascent carrier's initial fleet. The project's launch has been delayed given changes in financing of the aircraft purchases which are now being funded from Uganda's budget directly after failing to secure external financing.

Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International), Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta), and RwandAir (WB, Kigali) combined now control over 50% of seat capacity from/to Uganda given the lack of a locally based international carrier.
