WestJet (WS, Calgary) is considering merging the maintenance units of the mainline unit and regional subsidiary WestJet Encore (WR, Calgary), Flightglobal has reported.

The airline appointed Seabury Consulting to analyse the potential benefits of such a move.

Meanwhile, MRO Network has reported that the airline reactivated eight B737NGs previously slated for cabin refurbishment to mitigate the effects of the B737-8 grounding. The Canadian carrier currently plans to resume cabin upgrades of the older-generation B737s in August, but the tentative schedule is subject to change depending on the timeline for the resumption of MAX operations.

WestJet took delivery of thirteen B737 MAX 8s prior to the type's grounding in mid-March 2019. In terms of narrowbody equipment, it also operates thirteen B737-600s, fifty-three B737-700s, and forty-two B737-800s.

The carrier's regional unit Encore operates forty-seven Dash 8-400s.
