The United States government will add Cuba's state-owned regional carrier Aerogaviota (GTV, Havana International) to the list of sanctioned enterprises, national security advisor John Bolton said.

As reported by Reuters, Bolton announced the tightening of US sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela during a meeting with the veterans of the failed 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.

Aerogaviota is fully owned by the Cuban military and has been added to the list of sanctioned firms due to this link to the regime. It operates four ATR42-500 turboprops as well as An-26s and Mil Helicopters on charter flights and a network which includes domestic flights within Cuba, as well as services to Kingston Norman Manley and Montego Bay in Jamaica, according to its website.

Cuba's flag carrier, Cubana (CU, Havana International), is not formally included on the list of sanctioned firms as such but is nonetheless banned from operating into the United States due to the ongoing trade embargo. Following the thaw in relations between the countries under the previous President Barack Obama, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines all launched scheduled services to Cuba.
