Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, will see the resumption of scheduled flights when Air Niugini (PX, Port Moresby) restarts its service there following the completion of three-month-long runway works.
PNG's national airline revealed in an official Facebook post that the works at Rabaul Tokua Airport were estimated to be finished by May 31, with services expected to resume after that date.
Located on the island of New Britain, Rabaul has a single asphalt runway, 10/28, which measures 1,720 × 28 metres.
Air Niugini plans to revert there by replacing the Hoskins stop on its Port Moresby-Kieta-Buka-Hoskins-Port Moresby service, for which it deploys a Fokker 100.
Air Niugini also confirmed it would resume flights from Port Moresby and Buka to Kieta on May 7, three months after they were suspended due to the theft of solar panels powering the airport's Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system.
