Ultimate Air Shuttle (Cincinnati Lunken) will launch flights to Currituck County Regional Airport in North Carolina on June 1, 2019, becoming the only carrier to serve the airport, The Virginian-Pilot has reported.

The airline plans to fly to Currituck from Pittsburgh International via Manassas and from Morristown Municipal, NJ. Both routes will operate 2x weekly (on Saturdays and Sundays). Flights will be onboard Do328-300s and E135LR operated by Ultimate Air Shuttle's parent Ultimate Jetcharters (Akron Regional).

Director of economic development for Currituck County Larry Lombardi also hinted that flights from Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia are being considered. Services will run seasonally through September 14. Authorities see the flights as a viable alternative to congested motorways leading to the area.

Currituck airport serves Outer Banks, a string of barrier islands and spits which are a major summer tourist destination in the summer.

Outer Banks Airlines (Manteo) currently provides charter flights from Currituck, which is located on the mainland, to five airports on the Outer Banks themselves, namely Manteo, Pine Island, First Flight Airport at Kitty Hawk, Hatteras, and Ocracoke Island using PC-12 and PA-32 aircraft.
