VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has cashed in VND3.57 trillion dong (USD153 million) in revenues from selling aircraft purchase options in the first quarter of 2019, VN Express has reported citing the airline's 1Q19 financial statements.

Although the low-cost carrier did not disclose how many options it sold, it said that the total net profit from the sale amounted to VND924 billion dong (USD40 million). VietJetAir received significant discounts from the manufacturer thanks to the bulk orders it placed and was able to sell the options at a profit.

Ho Chi Minh City Securities JSC (HSC) estimated that the airline earned around USD5 million per option sold, implying that it sold eight purchase options. The same securities firm said that VietJetAir was granted a 65% discount on the list prices of A321-200neo by Airbus.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, VietJetAir has outstanding orders for 116 A321neo from Airbus and 200 B737-8-200s from Boeing.
