Nepal Airlines (RA, Kathmandu) will resume its flights to Osaka Kansai on July 4, 2019 after a 12-year gap, following months of delay caused by the extended certification of the carrier in Japan.

The Nepalese flag carrier has announced it will operate the direct flights 3x weekly using its only widebody aircraft type, the A330-200. Nepal Airlines previously ceased to fly to Osaka in 2007. At that time, flights were operated via Shanghai Pudong using B757-200 aircraft.

Nepal Airlines initially planned to resume flights to Osaka in February 2019 but was forced to delay them due to the safety checks required by the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB). The airline, together with all other Nepalese carriers, continues to be blacklisted by the European Aviation Safety Administration (EASA).

The carrier continues to negotiate rights to launch flights to Tokyo Narita and to Guangzhou. It also plans to launch international services to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi from Bhairahawa airport once it opens. The completion of the ongoing construction works is planned for 2020. Currently, the only airport in Nepal with international flights is Kathmandu.
