Mahan Air (W5, Tehran Mehrabad) will launch scheduled services to Banja Luka International in Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 21, 2019, the carrier's booking system indicates.
Flights will operate 2x weekly from Tehran Imam Khomeini onboard A310-300 aircraft.
According to the ch-aviation capacities module, Banja Luka, the capital of the Serbian federal part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, currently sees exclusively European scheduled traffic with 8 weekly departures operated by Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) and 5 weekly flights by Air Serbia (JU, Belgrade).
Mahan Air remains sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for allegedly supporting international terrorism. The OFAC has also consistently been going after multiple vendors and agents acting on behalf of Mahan Air for the last few years. In 2018, the carrier ended services to Belgrade amid growing pressure from the US on Serbian companies and authorities to cut ties with the airline. Since early 2019, Mahan Air has been banned from operating to Germany.
According to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, Mahan Air currently continues to serve two destinations in the European Union (Barcelona El Prat and Milan Malpensa). The airline does not fly to Bosnia and Herzegovina or any other Balkan country.
