AirAsia India (Bangalore International) is planning to double its current fleet within the next 12-15 months, including adding its first A320-200neo, the PTI newswire has reported.

The new Airbus narrowbodies are due to start delivering to the Indian unit of AirAsia Group in June 2019 and will come from the parent's orderbook with the manufacturer.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, AirAsia India currently operates twenty A320-200s.

AirAsia Group currently has 268 outstanding orders for A320neo and another 100 for A321-200neo placed with Airbus.

The carrier is also planning to launch international flights by October 2019. While AirAsia India initially will focus on serving its parent's home markets in South-East Asia, such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, its medium-term plans include other destinations, too.

"After South-East Asia, we plan to expand our operations to destinations such as Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh in the SAARC region and also to Japan, the Middle East, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region," an airline official said.

AirAsia India has recently decided against adding any ex-Jet Airways (JAI, Mumbai International) B737s due to the complexities such a type mix would cause.
