Britten-Norman (Bembridge) has announced plans to establish its own airline in Malta following the signing of a Heads of Agreement with Malta Industrial Parks last month.

Outlining its investment strategy, the UK-based aircraft manufacturer said in a statement that it will secure an Air Operator’s Certificate from the Maltese Civil Directorate for use in developing a short-sector passenger aircraft operation covering the Mediterranean from 2020 onwards. According to Air Transport World, the airline will initially employ BN-2s to run charter flights which may then graduate to scheduled services.

Britten-Norman also intends to establish a civilian pilot training institution and a General Aviation MRO hangar at Malta International Airport.
