Vieques Air Link (V4, Vieques) has acquired a pair of Cessna (twin piston) 402s in preparation for its venture into the international market later this year. The Puerto Rican carrier currently runs regular flights throughout Puerto Rico connecting Ceiba, Culebra, San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin, San Juan Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci, and Vieques.

President Carlos Rodríguez recently told San Juan's 11Q 1140 AM radio that the two Cessna Aircraft Company twinprops - N870VL (msn 402C-0616) and N871VL (msn 402C-0290) - were acquired earlier this year for USD800,000. They will be used to launch flights to St. Thomas Cyril E. King in either October or November this year.

"To grow, we have to go distances beyond Vieques and Culebra. And for that, we purchased two planes that are a bit faster to be able to cover the distances more comfortably," he said. "But eventually, the planes should be operating flights between Isla Grande (San Juan Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci) and St. Thomas, which is our next route."

Aside from the 402s, Vieques Air Link also operates seven BN-2 Islanders.
