Cabo Verde Airlines (VR, Sal Amilcar Cabral International) has announced three new routes to Africa, South America, and North America as it aims to strengthen Sal Amilcar Cabral International as a connecting hub between the three continents and Europe.
According to the ch-aviation schedules module, the carrier will launch flights to Washington Dulles (1x weekly from December 8). The airline said in a press release it also plans to operate services to Luanda 4 De Fevereiro and to Porto Alegre International, both 2x weekly starting on December 9 and 11, respectively. All flights will be operated onboard B757-200s.
Currently, Cabo Verde does not have direct services to Washington or Porto Alegre. TAAG Angola Airlines (DT, Luanda 4 De Fevereiro) operates 2x weekly from Luanda via São Tome using a B737-700.
The Cabo Verdean flag carrier has also recently launched new 3x weekly services to Rome Fiumicino and Salvador International. Cabo Verde Airlines' network from Sal also includes flights to Dakar Blaise Diagne International, Fortaleza International, Lisbon, Milan Malpensa, Paris CDG, and Recife. The airline continues to serve Boston out of Praia, although it is in the process of consolidating its intercontinental network at Sal.
Cabo Verde Airlines operates three B757-200s, including one unit wet-leased from Icelandair (FI, Reykjavik Keflavik). The airline is 51%-owned by Loftleidir Icelandic (Reykjavik Keflavik), itself a subsidiary of Icelandair.
