PIA - Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Islamabad International) has started setting its international fares in US dollars due to the weakness of the Pakistani rupee, the UAE-based Khaleej Times newspaper has reported.

The change covers all fares for tickets sold outside of Pakistan.

"All ex-Pakistan fares will be approved and filed in the US dollar, but will be reflected on the ticket in local currency by converting at the system exchange rate. Whenever there's any fluctuation in the currency, the fares in Pakistan rupee will automatically be updated," the carrier said.

PIA added that the new structure reflects IATA-recommended best practices.

The new fare structure went into effect on August 12.

Over the last 12 months, the Pakistani rupee lost 22.5% of its value against the US dollar.
