Cargo Air (CGF, Sofia) has agreed with Boeing to defer the deliveries of two B737-800 converted freighters by two years to 2023 given continuing high demand for passenger-configured B737-800s, Cargo Facts has reported.

The carrier will also continue to operate its sole passenger-configured aircraft, a B737-400, for at least one more summer season and make it available mainly to leisure carriers on an ACMI basis. Cargo Air said that the spike in demand was at least partially due to the grounding of the B737 MAX and coincides with a slump in demand for cargo.

The airline's passenger-configured narrowbody jet, LZ-CGY (msn 28882), is currently wet-leased to Smartwings (Czechia) (QS, Prague Václav Havel). Cargo Air plans to retrofit its cabin as it continues to proffer it to the passenger market.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Cargo Air also operates three B737-300(F)s and seven B737-400(F)s. The freighters operate predominantly on behalf of DHL Express and United Parcel Service.
