Jazz Air (QK, Halifax) has signed an agreement for the Canadian flight academy Toronto Airways Inc (TAI) to become the 20th organisation in the Jazz Aviation Pathways Program (Jazz APP), which provides potential employment opportunities for qualifying TAI instructors to transition to first officer positions at Jazz.

Through agreements with 14 colleges and universities and six industry bodies, now including TAI, Jazz APP will provide an additional career pathway for aviation instructors with this latest agreement, Jazz Air said in a statement. The deal “furthers our commitment to provide a clear pathway for flight instructors across Canada,” said Cal Purves, director of flight operations at Jazz.

Since 2007, the regional and charter carrier has been involved in assisting with the curriculum and training of Canada’s future pilots through engagement with aviation colleges, flight schools, and universities. In 2015, it rebranded these efforts under Jazz APP.

Through an agreement with Air Canada (AC, Montréal Trudeau), a professional pilot's career with Jazz provides a faster track to flying for Air Canada mainline, under which 60% of Air Canada pilot employment offers must go to Jazz pilots. More than 500 Jazz pilots have now transitioned to the flag carrier under this Pilot Mobility Program, Jazz said.

Air Canada bought a 9.99% stake in Jazz parent Chorus Aviation in January 2019, and Jazz Air currently provides regional and charter services in Canada and the United States primarily under contract to Air Canada using the Air Canada Express brand.
