Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) has announced in a press release that its wholly-owned cargo subsidiary Azul Cargo Express has entered into an exclusive partnership with Mercado Libre, Latin America's e-commerce giant, for domestic air shipping.

"This partnership means faster deliveries through Mercado Libre's and Azul's extensive network, covering the entire country with almost 900 daily flights. With Azul, we expect to significantly increase both the number and speed of deliveries," Leandro Bassoi, the Vice-President of Mercado Envios, Mercado Libre's Latin America shipping unit, said.

Mercado Libre already represents 10% of Azul cargo unit's revenue. The e-commerce firm will now become Azul's largest cargo partner.

Besides cargo bellyhold capacity on its passenger aircraft, Azul Cargo Express also operates two B737-400(F)s. Earlier this year, the carrier scrapped its plans to partner with the Brazilian postal service, Correios, over the creation of an integrated logistics solutions company.
