Aigle Azur (Paris Orly) has announced in a press release that it has received a total of fourteen expressions of interest that have been discussed with the carrier's works council in the afternoon of September 9.

The French news agency AFP is reporting that the EOIs include proposals for both isolated assets of the bankrupt French carrier and also for "more comprehensive recovery projects".

Among the parties which submitted EOIs are Air France (AF, Paris CDG) and the carrier's minority shareholder Gérard Houa, who controls a 20% stake through Lu Azur.

French Secretary of State for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari told AFP that Groupe Dubreuil, the parent of Air Caraibes (TX, Pointe à Pitre) and Air Caraibes Atlantique (CAJ, Paris Orly), would be interested in Aigle Azur's long-haul operations while other players like Air France would be more interested in the short-haul business to Algeria. easyJet (London Luton) is interested in Aigle Azur's Paris Orly slots with a union source saying Vueling Airlines (VY, Barcelona El Prat) would also be one of the interested parties.

Aigle Azur suspended operations on Friday, September 6, 2019, after filing for bankruptcy earlier in the week. Using a leased fleet of seven A320-200s and two A330-200s, it operated up to twelve daily departures out of Orly with the slots at the capacity-constrained airport its most valuable assets now.

According to ch-aviation capacities data, a total of 28 operators currently serve the Parisian gateway with Air France-KLM entities Air France, Transavia France, and Transavia Airlines operating more than 53% of a total of 2,230 weekly departures for the week starting September 16. IAG International Airlines Group controls 10.49% through Vueling, Iberia, and LEVEL with easyJet offering 8.61% of weekly flights. Royal Air Maroc is in fourth place operating 3.86% of weekly departures from Orly.

Air Algérie (AH, Algiers) and Air France have started operating additional flights between Algeria and France to compensate for the capacity lost after Aigle Azur's grounding. For example, Air France has wet-leased an E190 from WDL Aviation (Cologne/Bonn) that is currently operating two daily flights between Orly and Algiers, according to ch-aviation analysis of Flightradar24 ADS-B data.

Meanwhile, Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion) has also been affected by the bankruptcy given it was wet-leasing an A330-200 from Aigle Azur. It has replaces it with other widebody aircraft sourced from Hi Fly (5K, Beja), Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas (PU, Madrid Barajas), and Wamos Air (EB, Madrid Barajas), as well as by rerouting, advancing, or postponing other flights in its network.
